What are the elements involved in Web Development?
Web Development and Designed has evolved significantly over the years. A few years ago, most of the sites out there, especially the corporate sites, were static HTML – Where each page of the site has coded in for it's text. Now almost every site out there is dynamic, where the information (even text) is fetched from a database, which makes it easier to change this information as you don't need to change the information on the page HTML, but you can do it through an admin panel which would push it into a database. Since most of the sites are dynamic, to make them work, requires knowledge of database and programming. Some sites are more complex than others, and require more involved knowledge of these skills.
Web Design has also undergone a big change. From simple HTML, now CSS (cascading style sheets) are the norm. CSS requires a deeper knowledge of design programming than HTML. Web design consists of two parts – First is to design the page / layout on a graphic editor such as PhotoShop and the other is to "code" that design into CSS, which is an advanced form of HTML. Both activities require different skills, and often different people.
Web Development has become more elegant, yet more complicated than before. It is often not advisable to hire full time developers to develop and maintain sites in-house. Hence, most companies today outsource the development and maintenance of their web sites.
